(Muskegon River & Manistee River)

(8/21) Chinook Salmon are on the move! Northwest winds over the past few days created a good push of chrome Chinook Salmon on the both the Lower Pere Marquette and Big Manistee River. Fishing in the lower rivers and ports has been excellent the last two days - Once the winds change- It's game on for Salmon Season!

Both the Big Manistee river and Lower Pere Marquette and starting to show a fair number of early kings. Casting Thundersticks has been working quite well. These fish have been really chrome and tough to land.. Good numbers and pockets of fish are well on their way!!
Over the next several weeks salmon fishing should be excellent! I'm hearing of a few less fish on the lake but a much larger year class- size this season! We still have a limited amount of Thunderstick dates in late August- early September! Welcome to Salmon Season 2009!

Salmon Season Coming Soon! We will begin guiding Salmon on the Pere Marquette and Manistee River around August 25th. King Salmon begin staging off the river mouths during mid- August preparing for the Fall spawning migrations. Early in the season, we will be casting crankbaits for big chrome Kings. Later in the season, we will be fly fishing for Chinook and Coho Salmon. Many hook-ups and many fish landed are the norm for the Big Manistee River!

Muskegon River Trout Fishing -
We are sincerely looking forward to the introduction of the "Bubbler System" above the Croton Dam- This should make for some outstanding Trout Fishing below the Dam in Croton. We could once again experience Caddis Super Hatches! Wow! What a change in weather! Cooler temperatures forecasted and the fishing has been very good! Muskegon River Trout and Smallmouth Bass has been great with the huge amounts on Sucker and Steelhead fry. Fry patterns have been the flavor of the month. Both Trout and Smallmouth have been feeding heavily on fry. Trout have also keyed up on Caddis emergers and or fry depending on the weather.
